Television is a crucial method for promoting sports. Thanks to our charismatic athletes who communicate with the press and talk about HMB in interviews, millions of people will find out about our sport. This is an invaluable contribution to the development and promotion of HMB around the world.
For example, Melanie Gras from Germany took part in a famous show in her country with a very unusual format.
“That was a guessing show Sag die Wahrheit (Tell the Truth). Four VIPs had to find out which of the three women was really Melanie Gras. To do this, they were allowed to ask questions and at the end had to guess which one was telling the truth and which one was lying. Afterwards, our sport was briefly presented and what I have already achieved with it.
Unfortunately time was too short to tell more about HMB. They’re asked about our German HMB Association and how many women are doing this in Germany. They were very impressed. The funniest question was, “What do you do as a woman in armour when you have to go to the toilet?””, said Melanie.
This is definitely an important question. But for us it is more important that thanks to Melanie and the ARD 1 TV channel, many people learned about combat in armor. Perhaps we will soon meet some of the spectators of that program in the lists of Battle of the Nations!
The well-known HMB club SKSKB PRAHA from the Czech Republic often communicates with the press. According to Daniel Dufek, the guys from the Prague Trolls and Prague Vixens teams give interviews about HMB about 5 times a year. So, in the program Víkend (Weekend) that was aired on TV Nova, guys and girls from the teams told what HMB is, how we train, how they started, how to start if you are interested, and women in HMB.
Also, the Czech HMB athletes talked about their participation in the World Championship in HMB Battle of the Nations and Buhurt Prime in Monaco. The communication turned out to be spontaneous, funny and very informative.
As we learned, Battle of the Nations 2019, which took place in Serbia, significantly increased public interest in HMB sports. The press fell in love with HMB, and HMB athletes of Serbia gladly reciprocated it. So recently, Alexandar Dobri Uroshevich and his team also had a conversation with journalists. According to him, their communication with the press was quite intense, but the questions are well known to all of us:
“After BotN 2019 everybody heard about HMBIA, about medieval fighting, so we organized a few small festivals and tournaments in the Smederevo Fortress. There were reporters who asked if it was real fights, can we get hurt, the weight of the armor… Things like that. Also thanks to the press we got some amount of true fans who know about us. There are a lot of people who know fighters from other countries – who are Pawel Kurzak, Sergey Ukolov, Alex Petrik. And they all want to know when Serbia will hold another scale HMB event as BotN”, said Alexandar.
According to him, thanks to BotN, now it is much easier to talk to the press or to reach the press, than it was about 2 years ago.
