On September 5, the most anticipated tournament of the season the Alexander Nevsky Cup 2020 takes place in St. Petersburg. The unique tournament brought together teams of the Federal Districts of Russia (North-West, Center, Urals, South, Volga Region) for battles in the 12 vs 12 HMB category.
The uniqueness of the Alexander Nevsky Cup is in such a layout of teams, that give the opportunity to fight to maximum number of HMB fighters from all over the country. Also it is the opportunity of high-quality preparation for the selection stage for the World Championship in HMB Battle of the Nations 2021.
Fighters are quite satisfied with this format of team composition and consider it a useful initiative both for sports and for strengthening inter-club relations among fighters:
“I really like the fact that we are now fighting with the district teams. This is a very good concept, because we fought as clubs for a long time, and this is an opportunity to strengthen relations between fighters. Because when you fight shoulder to shoulder with your past opponents, your relationship becomes much better, more reliable. Even now, our opponents are our friends for years. We know each other well and have met many times at the lists of other events”, said Artemy Gershwald, captain of the Center District team.
The Alexander Nevsky Cup this year is of tremendous importance for the results of the season. Firstly, the 12v12 category is included in the Buhurt League rating system and will bring points to registered clubs. Secondly, Dmitry Kunchenko, the captain of the HMB team Russia admitted that participation in the 12vs12 is one of the mandatory elements of the selection for the Battle of the Nations 2021.
