The work on introducing full plate armor battles as a new official combat category for the HMB World Championship Battle of the Nations in the future has been going for about two years. This is great news, because we have all been able to appreciate the spectacle, beauty and grace of such tournaments as part of big historical festivals for many years. HMBIA News talked about the prospects of such a merger with Sergey Myasishchev, head of the HMBIA Marshal Committee.
“Tournaments of knights in full plate armor are really spectacular! In addition, this is how everyone imagines a real knight – a warrior clad in full plate armor wielding a huge sword. All this speaks of the enormous potential of this discipline for attracting attention to HMB,” said Sergey Myasishchev.
However, according to him, working out a set of clear regulations for holding such competitions at Battle of the Nations, while preserving their spirit and historical truthfulness, is not an easy job.
“Today we can see an element of the game in full plate tournaments – noble gentlemen make certain vows, agree on the number of hits, and so on. Yes, this partly corresponds to historical realities, and it works well as long as the community of knights in armor is small. Now it is, in fact, a group of friends and like-minded people. But how to create rules that, on the one hand, would preserve the specifics of this discipline, and on the other, would lead this action to a full-fledged competition – this is still a question for me”.
But we know well that there are no unsolvable questions. The head of the HMBIA Marshal Committee admitted that he was seriously thinking about purchasing a set of armor for himself and even plans to try this discipline.
HMBIA News thanks Sergey Myasishchev for the interview and our editorial office is sure that soon we will all see full plate armor tournaments as an official category of the World Championship in HMB Battle of the Nations.
